AIWAV October Meeting 2023

The weather played ball for the planned outdoor meeting this October - a morning of cleaning the barene in front of the island of Sant Erasmo followed by a picnic on the beach of Bacan. It almost felt warm enough to go swimming with the scirocco breezes and blue skies. In fact a few members became more intimate with the lagoon mud than they expected when boots decided to get stuck as we worked.

A group of 8 members were transported to the marshland islands by Ilaria Pagin of Spazio Levante who kindly offered her boat for the morning. The group collected 8 bags of general waste and 8 more of plastic waste in about two hours. Autumn was chosen for this activity as a quiet time that would hopefully not disturb the local wildlife population too much.

After depositing the waste in appropriate locations on Sant Erasmo and cleaning the boat and each other of the lagoon fango (Italian for mud and such a great word!), the members reunited on the beach next to Al Bacan restaurant where a nice picnic was supplemented by well deserved drinks from the bar!
